POMONA—The Chico State women's soccer team wrapped up a California Collegiate Athletic Association berth Sunday by posting its seven consecutive shutout in a scoreless draw at Cal Poly Pomona. Goalkeeper Emma Hofmann made six saves, including three spectacular diving saves to push the ball wide of the goal in overtime.
The Wildcats are now 4-0-3 in their last seven matches to move to 9-2-5 overall and 5-1-4 in the CCAA. Cal Poly Pomona is now 8-5-3 overall and 4-3-3 in the CCAA.
Sunday's result leaves the Wildcats in fourth place in the conference, but a title is still not out of the question. They are only two points out of the lead heading into Thursday's regular season finale against Humboldt State at University Soccer Stadium at 2 p.m. The Wildcats could claim a conference title with a win, and the following: A Sonoma State-San Francisco State tie and a Cal State East Bay loss or tie against Stanislaus State.
Cal Poly Pomona's goalkeepers matched Hofmann with six saves. Natalie Mendoza led Chico State with two shots on goal. Klayre Barres, Emily Billena, Brynn Howard and Sarah Emigh had one apiece. Nicole Fairbanks, Sarah Speros, Howard, Kylie Martinez and Hofmann played all 110 minutes for Chico State.
