Men's track & field standouts Alex Graham and Chris Jaeger receive senior salutes

7/21/2020 3:41:00 PM

Thirteen members of the Chico State men's track & field team are saying farewell to the program this summer, but before they move on, it seems only right to give them a proper sendoff. We continue our week-long senior salutes by spotlighting javelin thrower Alex Graham and high jumper Chris Jaeger, with Wildcats head coach Oliver Hanf sharing his thoughts on each athlete.

ALEX GRAHAM

Javelin

“Without any prior experience in Track & Field, Alex joined the Butte College team and picked up the javelin. We were lucky enough to land him. His work ethic rubbed off on everyone around him, and his performances got better and better as the season went on. He earned All-Conference his first year and he was geared to win the title this year. Coach Zak Stroing described Alex as being very strong-willed and stubbornly determined to achieve his goals. He sets goals that the average athlete wouldn’t, and puts in every ounce of effort he can in order to achieve them. When things got hard Alex didn’t stop and give up; he stayed longer and put in more time in order to realign himself with where he wanted to be.”

CHRIS JAEGER

High jump / Javelin

“Chris entered his senior season aiming for a fourth straight All-CCAA honor, having earned a gold, a silver and a bronze medal in the high jump in his first three seasons of competition. He was selected as this year’s WAR DOG, an honor bestowed on the ultimate teammate. Coach John Brunk says “The team was always ‘vibing’ off Chris. He always had their back. His teammates and coaches loved him!” Now Chris is off to protect the Rogue River-Siskiyous National Forest, patrolling the deep woods.”
