Wildcats hosting Cal State San Bernardino this weekend

Rain in the forecast for Saturday forced the Chico State baseball team's four-game set against Cal State San Bernardino to start a bit early. The teams are now scheduled to play a doubleheader Friday at 2 p.m., single game Saturday at noon, and single game Sunday at 11 a.m.

The Wildcats don't mind one bit. They've been chomping at the bit to get back on the field after opening the season on a bit of a roll. Chico State is 12-6 overall and in second place in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) at 8-4, having won four of its last five series and splitting the other.

All four games of the series will be broadcast locally on AM-1290 KPAY Sports. Friday's first game will be joined in progress following the Chico State men's basketball team's noon CCAA Tournament semifinal. Links to live stats, live video, and streaming audio are available in the calendar section on our homepage and on the baseball schedule page.

Cal State San Bernardino, coached by former Chico Heat second baseman Mike Nadeau, enters the series with records of 6-12 and 3-9. But the Coyotes gave first-place Cal Poly Pomona all it could handle last weekend, dropping the first, third and fourth games of the series by two runs apiece, and winning game two 8-7.

Chico State broke into the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper coaches rankings this week at No. 27. The Wildcats are ranked No. 4 in the West Region by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) and among teams receiving votes in the NCBWA National Top-25 Poll.
