Great weather and Wildcats baseball on tap

Chico State hosts Cal Poly Pomona for four-game set starting tonight at 6

Nights like tonight and settings like Chico State's Nettleton Stadium are where the term "fair-weather fan" comes from. Lucky for you, "The Nett" is a no-judgement zone. Whether you're one of the hardcore fans who has braved the rain and cold winds that have taken place during many of the Wildcats' games this spring, or this will be your first time out this season, you won't regret coming out to enjoy some Chico State baseball over the next three days with temperatures in the mid-80s today and Friday and the low-70s Saturday expected.

The Wildcats host Cal Poly Pomona tonight at 6 p.m. to start a four-game series. A doubleheader is set for Friday at noon, and the series concludes with a single game Saturday at 11 a.m.

Chico State is 19-15 overall and in sixth place in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) standings at 15-14. Cal Poly Pomona is in seventh place at 20-22 overall and 18-18 in the CCAA.

The top six teams at the conclusion of the regular season will advance to the CCAA Tournament. The Wildcats are not simply hoping to sneak in, however. They only trail second-place San Francisco State by four games and they are only one back in the loss column on third-place Cal State Monterey Bay. Meanwhile, they trail fourth-place Stanislaus State by 1.5 games and fifth-place Sonoma State by one game.

The games tonight and Saturday will be broadcast locally on AM-1290 and FM-102.9 KPAY. All four games will be streamed online via the link above. Links to streaming video and live stats are also available.

Following Tuesday's trip to Cal State East Bay for a single game, the Wildcats will host Sonoma State in a four-game series to wrap up their home schedule. That weekend's festivities include a celebration of life to the stadium's namesake, Steve Nettleton, on Saturday, April 27, and Senior Day on Sunday, April 28.
