The old sports cliché "you can't tell the players without a scorecard" certainly applies this week to the Chico State women's track & field team. Actually, MapQuest might be a better way to keep track of the Wildcats, as head coach Robert Nooney's squad blankets the state by taking part in four different meets. Several members of the 'Cats will be in Southern California to compete Thursday at the Mt. SAC Relays, Thursday and Friday at the Bryan Clay Invitational, and Friday and Saturday at the Beach Invitational. Closer to home, the Wildcats will also be out in force Saturday at the Yuba College Invitational in Marysville.
Fans can keep up with the results of the Bryan Clay Invitational, Mt. SAC Relays, and Beach Invitational online via the Wildcat Athletics website.
The four meets represent Chico State's final competitive tune-ups before heading to La Jolla May 2–4 for the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Track & Field Championships. The Wildcats, currently ranked No. 40 nationally and No. 13 in the West Region by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), is looking to reclaim the conference team title after seeing the program's eight-year reign halted last season.
Chico State distance runners will kick things off Thursday at the Azusa Pacific-hosted Bryan Clay Invitational. Hayley Boynton will be in the field for the 3,000-meter steeplechase, while Lucie Chevreuil, Jalen Burns, Nicole Anthony, and Talia Swangler are entered in the meet's 5,000-meter run.
Thursday evening at El Camino College's Murdock Stadium, Kayden Carpenter, Alexandria Tucker, and Nora Pizzella will compete in the 10,000-meter run for the first time this season at the 61st annual Mt. SAC Relays.
Friday will feature a mixture of Wildcats distance runners, sprinters and hurdlers taking part in both the Bryan Clay Invitational and the 25th annual Beach Invitational, taking place at Jack Rose Track on the Cal State Long Beach campus.
Saturday the sprinters and hurdlers take center stage at the Beach Invitational. Sheena Blackwell will toe the line for the 100- and 400-meter hurdles, with Sydney Proiette, Isabella Moyer, Lyndsey Settle, and Jordyn Dorsey teaming up for the 4x100-meter relay. Proiette, Savannah Bailey, and Claire Chappell are entered in the 400-meter dash, with Moyer, Settle, and Dorsey running the 100-meter dash.
The cardinal and white will also be competing in Marysville Saturday at the Yuba College Invitational. The Wildcats' field athletes will see the bulk of the action in the Northern California meet, with Michelle Flint, Alana Ochoa, Taylor Nevitt, and Kendyll Vargas all taking part in the hammer throw, shot put and discus. Adelae Fredeen is entered in four events (high jump, javelin, 100-meter hurdles and 200-meter dash), while Eva King, Kylie McCloskey, and Nadia Torkman will compete in multiple events.
