West No. 8 Wildcats in Carson for four-game set with Dominguez Hills

Lopez leads all CCAA pitchers with 40-plus innings with a 1.86 ERA; Miller third in batting average at .393

The race for the six postseason California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Tournament berths is heating up as the regular season winds down. The Chico State baseball team is hoping to heat up as well with 17 regular-season games remaining.
 
The Wildcats will play a four-game series at Cal State Dominguez Hills this weekend beginning with a single game Friday at 3 p.m. They'll play a doubleheader Saturday at noon and wrap up the weekend with a single game Sunday at 11 a.m.
 
Chico State enters the weekend ranked No. 8 in the West Region by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association with a record of 17-13 overall and 13-12 in the CCAA. Cal State Dominguez Hills is 12-22 overall and 11-21 in the CCAA.
 
Saturday's games and Sunday's series finale will be broadcast locally on AM-1290 and FM-102.9 KPAY. Links to online audio broadcasts and live stats for all four games are available above, on the baseball schedule page, and in the calendar section of our homepage.
 
Chico State is currently sixth in the CCAA standings, but only four-and-a-half games out of first.
 
In Cal State Dominguez Hills, the Wildcats will be facing one of the CCAA's top-hitting teams. The Toros are hitting .291 as a unit. They are led by Pierson Loska who is slugging a conference best .701 with 14 home runs. The junior transfer is hitting .336 and has driven in 50 runs on his 46 hits.
 
The Wildcats boast some of the CCAA's top hitters as well. Dustin Miller ranks third in the CCAA with a .393 batting average. Alex DeVito also ranks among the top 10 at .361. Meanwhile, sophomore outfielder Turner Olson has driven in 19 runs in the team's last 17 games.
 
On the mound, Wildcats starter Andrew Lopez leads all CCAA pitchers with at least 40 innings pitched with an ERA of 1.86.
 
Meanwhile, the Wildcats' defense is ranked fourth in the CCAA and has fielded .974 over the past 22 games.
