LINCOLN—The Chico State women's golf team rode sub-80 rounds by Brittany O'Bryant, Clare Brady, and Natalie Kinney Tuesday to post its first top five tournament finish of the spring season at the Mikuni Sushi Shootout. The Wildcats shot a collective 27-over par 315 to move up one notch on the team leaderboard and share fifth place with Dixie State in action at Lincoln's Catta Verdera Country Club.
O'Bryant captured her third top 20 individual finish of the 2018–19 season, placing 13th in the 73-player field. The senior played 1-over par over her final nine holes to post a 5-over 77 for a two-day score of 8-over 152.
Brady also carded a 77 to finish the 36-hole tournament at 12-over par 156, good for a share of 18th place. Brady enjoyed an eight-hole stretch Tuesday that saw the sophomore score four birdies and play 4-under par.
Kinney delivered a strong tournament finish, playing just 2-over on her final nine holes to record a 78. Kinney tied for 29th place overall with a total score of 16-over 160 .
Emily Rotter finished in a tie for 45th place, shooting an 85 Tuesday for a 36-hole score of 165.
Julia Kalez chopped a stroke off her Monday score with an 83 Tuesday, finishing in a tie for 48th place at 23-over par 167.
First round leader Cal State San Marcos ran away from the 13-team field Tuesday, shooting 9-under par 279 to win the Mikuni Sushi Shootout by 29 strokes with a final score of 3-over par 579. Academy of Art (32-over 608) placed second, with Cal State Monterey Bay (609) and Concordia (Oregon) (619) placing third and fourth, respectively. Chico State and Dixie State shared the final spot in the tournament's top five.
Breann Horn of Cal State San Marcos won medalist honors, finishing first by one stroke on the individual leaderboard with a 36-hole score of even par 144.
The Chico State women's golf team takes the next two weeks off before returning to action March 4–5. The Wildcats will travel to the Bay Area to compete in the Cal State East Bay-hosted Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout, at Corica Park in Alameda.
