Wildcats will put 10-match home win streak on the line on Food Pantry night

Hosting Cal Poly Pomona Friday night and 13th-ranked Cal State San Bernardino Sunday

10/10/2019 5:56:00 PM

The Chico State men's soccer team is looking for multiple wins this weekend, including a pair on Friday night. The Wildcats would like to extend their 10-match home win streak while also helping create another winning Hungry Wildcat Food Pantry Night at University Soccer Stadium. Over the past two seasons, Chico State soccer fans have contributed nearly 2,000 food items and $1,000 in cash donations to the pantry, which has distributed healthy food to more than 8,500 students over the past six years.

Fans are encouraged to bring a donation of canned or boxed foods, hygiene products, or cold, hard cash. The pantry is currently in need of canned protein (black and refried beans, chicken, and fish), canned meals (stews, chili, soups), hygiene products, and healthy snacks (protein bars, nuts, dried fruit).

A 2018 California State University research survey found that 50% of Chico State students experience low to very low food security. The Hungry Wildcat Food Pantry was founded on the simple belief that all students should have access to healthy food.

The Wildcats, ranked No. 5 in the West Region by the United Soccer Coaches, enter Friday's 7 p.m. match against Cal Poly Pomona with a record of 7-1-0 overall and tied for second in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) at 3-1-0 despite playing five of their first eight matches on the road, including their first four CCAA matches. They'll wrap up the weekend against 13th-ranked Cal State San Bernardino Sunday at 2 p.m.

The Wildcats have outscored the opposition by a combined 20-1, posting nine shutouts, during their 10-match home win streak.

They'll need to put together two of their best matches of the season to keep that momentum going. Reigning West Region champion and 2018 NCAA Championship finalist Cal Poly Pomona is 3-3-2 overall and 2-0-1 in the CCAA. The Broncos are 3-0-1 in their last four matches.

Cal State San Bernardino, which opens its weekend Friday at Stanislaus State, is 5-1-1 overall and 2-1-0 in the CCAA despite the fact that it has not yet played a match at home.

Links to live stats and streaming video for each of this weekend's home matches are available at the top-right corner of this release, in the calendar section on the homepage, and on the women's soccer schedule page.

After this weekend, the Wildcats will play three more on the road before returning home to play their final three CCAA matches at University Soccer Stadium.
