A familiar figure and respected coach is once again a member of the Chico State Wildcats volleyball family. Tommy Gott, who served as a 'Cats assistant from 2009–15, has officially rejoined the program to assume Acting Head Coach duties, as current head coach Cody Hein continues his planned medical leave.
"I want to thank (Director of Athletics) Anita Barker for giving me the opportunity to return to Chico State," Gott said. "I'm excited to be back in Chico and part of the Wildcat family. I'm looking forward to once again work with the staff and student-athletes of this outstanding university. It's a great day to be a Wildcat!"
Gott comes back to Chico following a three-year stint as head coach at Western Oregon in Monmouth, Oregon. He led the Wolves to 23 wins in the competitive Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC).
A Chico native, Gott spent seven seasons under Hein as part of the Chico State volleyball coaching staff, helping the Wildcats go 121-82 during that stretch and reach postseason play in 2015.
David Irving, Justin Beskeen, and Francisco Contreras, part of Hein's 2018 coaching staff, are all set to return when the Chico State volleyball team begins play next fall.
