Former Wildcat Crosby begins quest for gold in Rio on Saturday

Will take part in the 100-meter and 400-meters at the Paralympics

Former Chico State track athlete Kym Crosby has been training for more than two years for this. Saturday, she will toe the starting line in Rio at the 2016 Paralympics.

Crosby, who competed in uniform for the women's track team in 2012 and 2014 (she redshirted in 2013), will run in the 100-meter preliminaries Saturday at 8:02 a.m., Pacific in hopes of qualifying for Sunday's final, which takes place at 7 a.m. The medal ceremony is scheduled for 8:07 p.m. (all times Pacific).

Crosby is also scheduled to run the 400 meters. Preliminaries are scheduled for Friday, Sept. 16 at 1:30 p.m. The final is set for Saturday, Sept. 17 at 6:40 a.m. The medal ceremony is scheduled for 7:40 a.m. (all times Pacific).

Crosby, who came to Chico State from Yuba City's River Valley High School, was born with albinism, leaving her without pigment in her skin, hair or eyes. More light reaches her pupils and irises, resulting in visual impairment. She is legally blind with 20/400 vision and competes in the T13 classification.

She left Chico State following the 2014 track and field season to train full-time with hope of winning a spot on the U.S. Paralympic team. Crosby did just that. After winning a silver in the 200 meters and bronze in the 100 meters at the 2015 World Championships (she finished fourth in the 400 meters), Crosby won gold in the 200 meters at the 2016 U.S. Paralympic Team Trials and finished second in the 100 meters.

Crosby's motto is "Limited sight, limitless dreams." Beginning Saturday, she hopes to turn those Olympic gold dreams into a reality.
