’Cats having too much fun not to play; Series moved

No. 26 Wildcats set for three-game series at San Bernardino

The Chico State baseball team is off to a 13-4 start and into the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper rankings for the first time this season at No. 26. The 2016 Wildcats seem to be having loads of fun in the process, and the last thing they want is to sit at home all weekend.

So instead of waiting in Chico and hoping the forecasters have the rainy projections all wrong, the Wildcats have switched their scheduled three-game home series and will now play it in San Bernardino at Fiscalini Field.

Game times remain the same: Doubleheader Saturday at noon and single game Sunday at 11 a.m.

All three games are scheduled to be broadcast locally on AM-1290 KPAY. Fans can also listen online and/or follow the livestats via links provided on the calendar section and baseball schedule page at www.chicowildcats.com. Saturday's second game will not be on KPAY if the Chico State men's basketball team advances to the second round of the NCAA Championship Tournament. It will still be available online, however.

Chico State is 3-2 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.

Cal State San Bernardino is 10-13 overall and 5-6 in the CCAA. The Coyotes lead the conference in fielding percentage but they've scuffled at the plate and on the mound. They are hitting .243 as a team and have a team ERA of 6.41.

The Wildcats have had an up-and-down season defensively, committing one error or fewer in 11 of 17 games. However, they've also had a few blowups, committing three or more on four occasions. Still, their .968 fielding percentage ranks second in the CCAA.

Chico State's sterling team ERA of .288 also ranks second in the conference. And the Wildcats' .319 team batting average ranks third.

The makeup date for Chico State's postponed series at Cal State East Bay has also been announced. The Wildcats won the first game of the four-game set last Thursday, 10-7. The second game was halted by rain with the Wildcats trailing 5-4 in the bottom of the eighth.

The teams will complete that game and then play a doubleheader on Tuesday, April 5. The start time has not yet been determined.
