Wildcats tee it up in Vallejo at East Bay-Tim Tierney Shootout

Chico State back in California following fifth place finish at St. Edward’s Invitational

CHICO – To the relief of players and coaches alike, the Chico State women's golf team won't have to deal with long plane rides and stormy weather as it prepares for its second spring tournament of the 2014-15 season. Following last week's wet, windy St. Edward's Invitational in Austin, Texas, the Wildcats take a short trip to Vallejo to take part in the 36-hole Cal State East Bay-hosted Tim Tierney Shootout Monday and Tuesday at Hiddenbrooke Golf Club.

The Wildcats are coming off a fifth place finish at the St. Edward's Invitational, and are looking to repeat the team's success at last season's East Bay-Tim Tierney Shootout. Chico State finished second to host school Cal State East Bay in 2014, with Spencer Downey notching a top 10 finish and Abbey McGrew and Dani O'Keefe each placing in the top 15.

The 'Cats are playing in the East Bay-Tim Tierney Shootout for the sixth consecutive year.

McGrew, fresh off a ninth place finish at the St. Edward's Invitational, is averaging 77.4 strokes per round. O'Keefe, who came in 27th in last week's tournament, is still putting up the best numbers for the Wildcats, averaging 76.1 strokes a round. Downey, despite earning a share of 43rd place in Austin, is averaging 80.9 strokes a round heading into Monday's opening round of the East Bay-Tim Tierney Shootout.

Rounding out the Chico State lineup is Bianca Armanini (79.6 strokes a round), who came in 13th place at the St. Edward's Invitational, and sophomore Sydney Zink, making her second start of the season.

The forecast for Vallejo is calling for cool temperatures and a chance of afternoon showers on Monday, followed by mild and sunny conditions on Tuesday.
