Well-rested Wildcats taking on L.A.

Scheduled to play 32 games in next 49 days

Hopefully the Chico State baseball team is feeling plenty rested after having last weekend off. The Wildcats will play 32 games in the next 49 days beginning with the first of a four-game series at Cal State L.A. Friday at 6 p.m.

Chico State is 13-4 overall, 5-3 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) and ranked No. 15 in the nation. The Wildcats are tied for third in the CCAA. Cal Poly Pomona leads the conference at 11-4 and UC San Diego is 8-4.

Cal State L.A. is 10-11 overall and 8-7 in the CCAA.

Chico State's pitching staff leads the CCAA with an ERA of 2.41. The Golden Eagles staff is last in the CCAA with a 5.84 ERA. The Wildcats also lead the CCAA in fielding percentage at .978 while Cal State L.A. ranks ninth at .955.

The Wildcats have struggled at times to score runs, however. They rank ninth in the conference with a .261 team batting average. Cal State L.A. is hitting .275 as a team.

Following Friday's game the series continues with a Saturday doubleheader at 1 p.m. and concludes with a single game Sunday at 11 a.m.
