Schedule changes to baseball series

Forecast forces teams to try to beat the rain

Because of rain in the forecast, the schedule for week's four-game baseball series against Azusa Pacific has changed. The teams will now play a doubleheader Thursday at 1 p.m. and another twinbill Friday at 11 a.m.

Only four pitchers in Chico State baseball history have 150 career strikeouts. Nick Baker is three punch-outs shy of joining that elite list. Eric Angerer, meanwhile, needs two more hits for 100 in his career. Both will attempt to reach those milestones when the Wildcats host Azusa Pacific for a four-game series starting Thursday.

This series is more about the present and the future than the past, however. Azusa Pacific opened the season with a three-game sweep of Cal State San Bernardino last weekend and is among the favorites to win the PacWest title. Chico State, meanwhile, is 1-1 after splitting a doubleheader against Fresno Pacific – another highly regarded PacWest squad – last Saturday.

Non-conference games become an important part of the equation when NCAA Championship Tournament teams are selected at the end of the regular season.

All four games will be broadcast on the Wildcat Athletics website. Live stats will be available there as well.
