The Chico State baseball team’s success during a 22-game home stand has put the Wildcats in fine position heading into the second half of its California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) campaign. The 12
th-ranked Wildcats are 23-7 overall and alone in second place in the CCAA at 13-7. Now, it’s time to find out what life on the road has in store for the Wildcats.
Chico State begins a stretch of 12 straight and 16 of its final 20 regular season games on the road this weekend with a four-game series at Cal State L.A. beginning Friday night at 6. The Golden Eagles (11-11 overall and 7-9 in the CCAA) will also host the Wildcats for a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. and then a single game Sunday at 11.
All four will be broadcast locally on Fox Sports 101.7 FM and 1340 AM. The broadcasts will also be accessible via streaming audio by clicking on the Wildcat Webcast link on the right hand side of this page.
The Wildcats have won six straight during which they’ve allowed just 18 runs and committed just five errors. They’re also benefitting from some red-hot bats. Blake Gibbs went 4-for-4 Monday and has reached base in each of his last seven plate appearances. The junior transfer from Oregon State has hit safely in six straight games while hitting .435. Cody Foster brings a nine-game hitting streak during which he’s batted .424 to Southern California. And TJ Yasuhara is hitting .421 with an on-base percentage of .560 during his current six-game hit streak.
Cal State L.A. got off to a hot start at 10-3, but has dropped eight of nine since. And the Golden Eagles didn’t have much of a chance to heat up heading into this series. Due to a bye and a washed out series, they haven’t played since March 10.
