CARSON – The Chico State volleyball team moved into the Top 25 this week for the first time all season. With more matches like their 3-0 sweep of host Cal State Dominguez Hills Friday night at the Torodome in Carson, the Wildcats can expect to move on up those rankings. Makenzie Snyder snapped down 14 kills and reigning California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Player of the Week Jessica Leek hit .400 on the way to 13 kills in Chico State’s 25-18, 25-15, 25-18 win.
The Wildcats have now won five in a row to improve to 13-3 overall and 8-2 in the CCAA. Their win, coupled with UC San Diego’s loss at Cal State Monterey Bay, gives the third-place Wildcats a two-game cushion over the fourth-place Tritons.
They’ll wrap up the first half of their CCAA slate with a 7 PM showdown at Cal State L.A. Saturday night at 7 PM. The Golden Eagles are 7-8 overall and 4-6 in the CCAA.
The Wildcats hit a blistering .330 as a team Friday night. Sable Villaescusa, who dished out a match-high 35 assists, notched two kills and hit .667. Freshman Lindsay Quigley hit .357 on the way to seven kills. And Ellie Larronde’s five kills came on only eight attacks. Lauren Orozco led the team with 16 digs and Leek tallied 11. Snyder led the team with four kills.
