CHICO - The Chico State baseball team will fight for early-season positioning in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) standings and attempt to secure Head Coach Dave Taylor's 250th career victory in the process when they open a four-game series against Cal Poly Pomona at Nettleton Stadium Friday at 6 p.m.
Taylor, 249-149-1 in seven-plus seasons as the head coach at the University of Wyoming, Cal State L.A., and now Chico State. A majority of those wins - 134 to be exact - have come in Taylor's three-plus campaigns at Chico State. And this year's Wildcats are off to one of their best starts under Taylor's watch.
Chico State enters the series 10-2 overall, 6-2 in the CCAA, and ranked No. 14 in the nation. Cal Poly Pomona is also off to a strong start at 11-6 overall and 5-3 in the CCAA. The Broncos are ranked No. 4 in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers' Association West Region Poll. Chico State is No. 3.
Following Friday's season opener, the teams are scheduled to play a doubleheader Saturday at noon and single game Sunday at noon.
