CHICO, Calif. – The Chico State Wildcats softball team looks to carry over its success from last weekend’s Sonoma Invitational into conference play as they travel to southern California to take on the Toros of Cal State Dominguez Hills in a pair of doubleheaders Friday and Saturday.
The Wildcats snapped their 10-game losing streak by winning four of six contests in the Sonoma Invitational; two of those victories coming against conference rival CSU Monterey Bay. Chico State heads into the weekend 9-20 on the season and will try to improve on its 3-13 record in the CCAA. Head Coach Jamie Brown’s Wildcats, batting just .207 as a team entering the Sonoma Invitational, showed some offensive spark by pounding out 42 hits in Rohnert Park, while Gwen Cox stole a pair of bases last weekend to push her conference-leading total to 13.
Cal State Dominguez Hills currently sits at 18-10 on the year and are in third place in the CCAA with an 8-4 conference record. The Toros come into this weekend’s series with the Wildcats having won three straight and 11 of their last 13. Dominguez Hills split a four-game set with Humboldt State last week and won both ends of a non-conference doubleheader against Cal State San Bernardino on Tuesday.
Friday’s doubleheader gets underway at 1:00 p.m. at Toro Diamond in Carson, with Saturday’s twinbill starting at 11:00 a.m.
