ARCATA, Calif. – Chico State softball was swept in its four-game series at Cal Poly Humboldt, dealing a blow to its chances of qualifying for the 2026 CCAA Tournament.
The Wildcats fall to 10-18 in conference play with one series remaining, set for next weekend at home against Cal State East Bay.
Senior Brianna Swihart continued her standout season, leading Chico State offensively throughout the series. The senior catcher went 5-for-7 at the plate, driving in two runs, including a two-run home run in the series finale. Swihart now leads the Wildcats with a .343 batting average and a career-best 35 hits on the season.
Fellow seniors Hannah Levy and Itzell De Los Rios accounted for the Wildcats' other RBIs in Saturday's doubleheader, with Levy driving in two runs to bring her season total to 15.
Defensively, Chico State limited its miscues, committing just one error in the doubleheader, but was unable to capitalize on four errors by the Lumberjacks.
In the circle, Bella Tavares recorded seven strikeouts in a complete-game effort, while Amelie Valdez added four strikeouts in her start.
Chico State returns home next weekend for its final regular-season series against Cal State East Bay. Senior Day will be celebrated during Saturday's doubleheader, with first pitch for Friday's opener scheduled for 1 p.m. at Wildcat Softball Field.
