’Cats travel to SoCal to take on Dominguez Hills

CHICO, Calif. – The Chico State baseball team takes to the road this weekend for an important four-game conference series against Cal State Dominguez Hills. The Wildcats, who begin the week in third place in the CCAA, have fared well of late on the road, winning six of their last seven away from Nettleton Stadium.

The No. 24-ranked Wildcats enter the series with the Toros 14-10 on the year and 10-6 in conference play. Chico State, who took three of four last weekend against San Francisco State, begins the weekend two games behind conference-leading UC San Diego in a tightly-bunched CCAA race; only three games separates first from sixth place. The ’Cats continue to be the conference’s top-hitting team, leading the CCAA in batting average (.345), hits (287), home runs (30), on-base percentage (.420) and slugging percentage (.520).

Cal State Dominguez Hills is 13-12 on the season and sits in seventh place in the CCAA with an 8-8 conference mark. The Toros have struggled recently, losing seven of their last 10 games, but snapped a three-game losing streak Tuesday with a 5-4 victory over Vanguard University. Dominguez Hills senior first baseman Jon Alia enters the weekend as the CCAA’s leading hitter (.484) and RBI man (35).

Following this weekend’s road series, Chico State will play 22 of its next 24 games at home.

Friday’s series opener begins at 3:00 p.m. at Toro Field in Carson; Saturday’s doubleheader is scheduled to start at 11:00 a.m., and first pitch for Sunday’s series finale is set for noon. All games will be broadcast live with Mitch Cox providing the play-by-play on ESPN Radio 101.7 FM locally and on the Internet via the Wildcat Athletics website.
