Wildcat Baseball opens conference play against Coyotes

CHICO, Calif. – With eight non-conference games under its belt, the Chico State baseball team opens CCAA play this Friday and Saturday, hosting Cal State San Bernardino for a pair of doubleheaders at Nettleton Stadium.

The Wildcats return home after last weekend’s series against Mesa State in Grand Junction, Co. Amidst cold, rainy and snowy conditions, Chico State dropped three of four to the Mavericks to even the ’Cats season record to 4-4. As a result, the Wildcats tumbled from No. 3 to No. 19 in the latest NCAA Division II national poll.

Cal State San Bernardino will also play its first conference games when it takes on the ’Cats. The Coyotes come into Chico with a 4-6 season record; last weekend San Bernardino snapped a four-game losing streak by taking two of three from Dixie State College.

With wet weather forecast for Sunday, the single game originally scheduled for that day was combined with Friday’s single game to comprise the first doubleheader. Game one of Friday’s twinbill will begin at 2:00 p.m., with Saturday’s doubleheader getting underway at 11:00 a.m. at Nettleton Stadium.

The first game of each doubleheader will be broadcast live with Mitch Cox handling the play-by-play on ESPN 101.7 FM locally or on the Internet via the Wildcats Athletics website.
