The Chico State Softball team opens its 2009 season this Sunday, traveling to Turlock for a pair of games against Academy of Arts University and Cal State Stanislaus. The first game is scheduled for 10:00 Sunday morning, with the second game starting at approximately 12:30 p.m.

Head coach Jamie Brown begins her third year at the helm of the Wildcats, and there is plenty of optimism that Chico State will be a major force in the CCAA this season. The Wildcats look to improve on last year’s 25-28 record, and to do it, Brown has brought in 10 new players – including seven freshman – to join returning players Rebecca Johnson, Gwen Cox, Christina Wieck, Christine Johnson, Kristyn Haycock and Lauren Walker to make up this season’s Chico State squad.

The Wildcats will play their first home game of the 2009 season Thursday, Feb. 5 when they host Central Washington University. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m. at Chico State’s University Softball Field.
