CHICO, Calif. – The Chico State seniors ended their career at Acker Gym on a high note Saturday night, sweeping Cal State Dominguez Hills 3-0. All six seniors contributed to the victory and senior Kelly Smiland recorded her first double-double of the season with 11 kills and 10 digs in the match.
Cal State Dominguez Hills played the Wildcats (17-9, 10-6 CCAA) tough in the first two sets but the ‘Cats won both, 25-20 and 26-24. Senior Amy Jones tallied five kills between the two sets and senior Megan Cape added six kills and seven digs.
Chico pulled away in the third set with runs of 9-0 and 8-3, to win the set 25-17 and complete the sweep.
Senior Erica Brick recorded her 126th career service ace, moving her into a tie for second most service aces in Chico State history. Senior Lindsay Macias keeps adding to her career kills record, finishing with five kills on the night and senior Abbey Ranzau recorded a service ace in the second set to give her a team-high 27 on the season.
The Toros (2-22, 1-15 CCAA) finished with seven blocks on the night, four of them from freshman Heather Rushton. Rebekah Wolfgramm recorded three service aces to go along with nine assist and six digs. The Toros had three different players with five kills.
The victory marked the eighth straight over Cal State Dominguez Hills and the ‘Cats have taken 15 of the last 16 in the series.
The Wildcats head on the road for their final four matches of the season. They take on Cal State Stanislaus Tuesday and UC San Diego on Friday.
