CHICO - It was definitely a treat this Halloween for Chico State as it knocked off No. 13 Cal State L.A. Friday night in five sets in Acker Gym. The loud and spirited Chico crowd witnessed a back and forth match with the Wildcats winning sets one, three and the all-important fifth set.

There were four ties and four lead changes in the first set before the Wildcats won it 28-26. Gillian Heydorff recorded six of her team high16 kills in the set.

The second match had ties of 18-18,20-20, and 22-22, before the Golden Eagles squeaked out a 25-23 win going into the third set.

After a 12-12 tie in the third set, Chico went on a 10-4 run and never looked back, winning the set 25-19.

The fourth set stayed true to the course of the night. The two teams were tied at 16-16 but this time it was Cal State L.A. who pulled away for the 25-20 win to force a fifth and deciding set.

The fifth set had nine tie scores and four lead changes. The score was tied 11-11, 12-12 and 14-14 when the Wildcats scored two points to win the set 16-14 and sent the Golden Eagles (18-4, 11-4 CCAA) home with only their fourth loss of the season.

The Wildcats improved to 16-9 on the season and 9-6 in the CCAA with five league matches remaining.

Lindsay Macias tallied another double-double with 14 kills and 22 digs. Mackenzie Snyder played in just three sets, but recorded eight kills. Megan Cape and Kelly Smiland each recorded two service aces. Crystal Trifeletti had a good night around the net, recording six blocks to go along with eight kills.

Gabriela Bulawczyk led the Golden Eagles with 20 kills and 20 digs. Ursula Vieira added 19 kills and Amy McMahon had three service aces.

The Wildcats play their final home game of the season, Saturday, Nov. 1 at 7 pm in Acker gym against Cal State Dominguez Hills.
