Chico State Athletics

Bailey Jones played sparingly during her first two seasons as a member of the Chico State women’s basketball team, logging just 163 minutes in a combined 22 games. In the 2021–22 campaign, though, her role has greatly expanded, and the Castro Valley product is making the most of her opportunity. The junior guard has smoothly stepped into the starting lineup and provided big-time production both offensively and defensively, and her outstanding efforts in Chico State’s two season-opening wins makes Jones the latest Wildcat of the Week.
 
Jones averaged 12 points a game in the ’Cats’ victories over Fresno Pacific and Dominican University during the CCAA/PacWest Challenge at Acker Gym. She led the team with four 3-pointers, hauled in a dozen rebounds, and added two assists and a steal for good measure to help lead the Wildcats to only its second 2-0 start since the 2015–16 season.
 
Friday against Fresno Pacific, Jones scored 10 points, connecting on two 3-pointers, and grabbing five rebounds in Chico State’s 66-57 win over the Sunbirds. Saturday afternoon, Jones was even more productive, draining two more treys, gathering in six boards, and doling out a pair of assists as the Wildcats prevailed over Dominican in a 79-77 thriller.
 
Jones and the rest of the Chico State women’s basketball team have several chances to add to their win total this week. Tuesday the Wildcats will be in Oakland to take on Holy Names, then the team travels to Monmouth, Oregon for games Friday against Western Oregon and Saturday versus Saint Martin’s at the CCAA/GNAC Challenge.
