Aaron Mora did not have his best race last Saturday at the California Collegiate Athletic Association Championships. But the great thing about Mora, and the thing that has made him a special piece to Head Coach Gary Towne's puzzle over the last four seasons, is that he never lost sight of the prize.
Â
Mora, our Wildcat of the Week, stayed engaged and finished 12th overall to help lead the Wildcats to their 15th consecutive CCAA Championship. Mora may not have had his best stuff that day, but he focused on the team goal of beating 5th-ranked Cal Poly Pomona to keep its conference championship streak alive.
Â
In doing so, Mora earned All-CCAA honors for the fourth consecutive season. Mora finished ninth as a freshman in 2013, 11th as a sophomore in 2014, and eighth as a junior. Â
Â
His dependability has helped to keep the Wildcats on top of the conference, while helping Mora accomplish a rare feat. He is now just the seventh athlete in the storied history of the program to earn four consecutive All-CCAA honors, joining Patrick Boivin, Beau Bettinger, Antonio Miramontes, Charlie Serrano, Isaac Chavez, and Alfonso Cisnero.
Â
Mora and the Wildcats will attempt to add a regional championship to the mantle one week from Saturday, while also earning a spot on the starting line at the upcoming NCAA Championships.
