When Chico State volleyball standout Kelley Jacome was accepted into the university’s master’s program in business administration, it allowed her to not only further her education, but also to utilize her final year of athletic eligibility. The talented opposite hitter is certainly making the most of the opportunity, playing arguably the best ball of her entire college career. Jacome’s talents were on full display during the ’Cats’ road matches against Cal State Monterey Bay and San Francisco State, making her the latest Wildcat of the Week.
 
Jacome was one of the Wildcats’ top offensive weapons both nights, as Chico State downed Monterey Bay in a five-set thriller Friday in Seaside before coming up short in a four-set decision Saturday in San Francisco. Jacome collected a combined 26 kills, averaging just under three kills per set, while posting a team-high .271 hitting percentage. The Carlsbad product also added five digs and a pair of blocks to help the ’Cats improve to 7-13 on the season.
 
Friday against Monterey Bay, Jacome matched her career high with 15 kills, then came back the following night with a team-best 11 kills versus San Francisco State. Jacome has now posted double-digit kills in her last three matches, bringing her season total to eight.
 
With six scheduled matches still to play, Jacome, with 174 kills, is just four shy of setting a new personal single-season high. To date, she has amassed 612 kills and 149 blocks in her Wildcat career.   
 
Jacome and the Wildcats play their next four matches in the friendly confines of Acker Gym, beginning this Friday at 7 p.m. versus Cal State East Bay, and Saturday at 5 p.m. against Cal State San Marcos.
