Chico State distance runner Amy Schnittger, a senior from Watsonville, enjoyed the finest year of her impressive Chico State career in 2012-13. She was Chico State's nominee for the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Female Athlete of the Year award.
As a member of the Wildcat women’s cross country team, Schnittger earned All-CCAA and All-West Region honors to help Chico State capture its fifth consecutive conference crown, place first in the NCAA West Regionals and finish the season ranked fifth in the nation.
Â
Schnittger was even more productive in track & field. She broke the CCAA and school record in the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:25.97), posting the third fastest time in the event in Division II this season and the 19th fastest all time. Schnittger claimed the conference title in the steeplechase and finished second in the 5,000-meter run at the CCAA Track & Field Championship to help lead Chico State to its fourth straight CCAA title.
Schnittger capped off her amazing season with her second straight All-America in the steeplechase, finishing fourth in the NCAA Track & Field Championships with a time of 10:57.21.
