Kasey Barnett has already turned in an unbelievable season for the Chico State women’s track & field team. All the Chico native has done in 2013 is set three new personal records, earn a pair of NCAA Provisional Qualifying marks, win two conference championships and be crowned the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Field Athlete of the Year, and in the process has placed her name prominently throughout the Chico State record books. Barnett continued her amazing season Friday at the Cal State Stanislaus Twilight Qualifier, posting a new personal best in the pole vault and strengthening her chances to receive an invitation to compete at the NCAA Track & Field Championships. The performance also earned Barnett Wildcat of the Week honors.
Barnett finished fourth in the pole vault at the Stanislaus Twilight Qualifier, clearing the bar at 12-feet-6 to better her existing NCAA Provisional mark and move into this season’s top 15 ranked vaulters in Division II. The vault also placed Barnett at number three all-time on the Chico State women’s pole vault top 10 list.
Friday’s vault was just the latest event that Barnett has posted a personal best mark. Earlier in the season she notched career best performances in the long jump (18-feet-4) and the 100-meter dash (12.15 seconds). The junior is ranked among the top 10 in Wildcat history in the pole vault, long jump, 100-meter dash and as part of the 4x100-meter relay team.
Barnett hopes to add All-America honors to her sensational 2013 campaign May 23-25 at the NCAA Track & Field Championships in Pueblo, Colo.
