Many reasons exist for the Chico State men's basketball team's resurgence over the past 10 games. The Wildcats are 9-1 during that stretch, having won five straight overall and five straight on the road. Wildcat of the Week Kevin Warren is one of the biggest reasons. The junior guard is averaging 15.5 points per game on 69 percent shooting (48-for-70) over those 10 games, including a blistering 22-of-37 (.595) from 3-point range—along with 1.8 steals per contest.
The junior from Oakland (St. Mary's College HS) put together his best offensive effort of the season Saturday to lead the Wildcats to an 86-81 win at Cal State Dominguez Hills, wrapping up a challenging trip to Southern California with a pair of wins.
Warren scored a career high 28 points in just 24 minutes, including 13 in the game's final 10:38, to help the Wildcats rally from a 13-point deficit to beat Cal State Dominguez Hills. He knocked down 9-of-11 shots, including 3-of-5 from 3-point range, and 7-of-8 free throw attempts. He also pulled down six rebounds.
Warren scored 13 points and grabbed five rebounds and a steal in the Wildcats' 69-66 win at Cal State LA Thursday night. The wins helped Chico State remain a half game out of first in the CCAA standings. The Wildcats will look for their sixth straight road win Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at San Francisco State.
Warren leads the CCAA in 3-point field-goal percentage and overall field-goal percentage in conference play. He's fifth in steals and eighth in scoring.
