Melissa Richardson, the Wildcats’ leading scorer, turned in a pair of solid efforts as Chico State split its first weekend series of the new year to earn Wildcat of the Week honors. The senior from issaquah, Wash., averaged 12.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, 1.5 steals, 1.5 assists, and one blocked shot per game.
In Friday’s victory over Cal State San Bernardino, Richardson contributed seven points, three rebounds, one assist and a blocked shot in the ’Cats 78-51 rout of the Coyotes. Saturday against Cal Poly Pomona, Richardson lit it up from long range, draining a career-high six 3-point buckets and scoring a team-high 18 points (just one shy of her career best), as well as adding two rebounds, two assists, three steals and a blocked shot in the Wildcats’ 65-63 loss to the Broncos.
Richardson continues to rank among the CCAA’s leading scorers, averaging 11.4 points per game so far this season, and with 133 3-pointers as a Wildcat, she is now just five treys away from passing Marissa White for seventh place on Chico State’s career 3-point list.
