Whether he's filling up the hoop, like he did during a 22-point night in Thursday's win against Cal State Monterey Bay, or he's contributing in other ways, as he did in Saturday's win at Sonoma State, there's no getting around Malik Duffy's impact on the Chico State men's basketball team. We'll get to the stats next, but first consider this: During the 52:30 Duffy was on the floor last week, Chico State outscored Cal State Monterey Bay and Sonoma State by a combined 130-69.
Duffy, who led the Wildcats' in +/- in both of last week's blowout victories, is the Wildcat of the Week.
The 6-foot-8 junior forward (who leads the California Collegiate Athletic Association in 3-point shooting at 51.9 percent) led all scorers with 22 points in just 23:47 of action during Thursday's 113-69 win against Cal State Monterey Bay. He knocked down 8-of-11 shots, including 4-of-6 threes, and both of his free throws, while chipping in six rebounds and two assists. The Wildcats doubled up CSUMB 74-37 while Duffy was on the court.
Duffy didn't have quite the stat line in his 28:43 of play Saturday, but the Wildcats outscored the rival Seawolves 56-32 while he was on the floor on the way to a 73-48 win. The product of Jesuit High School in Sacramento finished with seven points, five rebounds, and three assists.
Duffy and the Wildcats will go for their seventh win in the last eight games when Humboldt State visits Acker Gym Saturday night at 7:30.
