Chico State guard Calvin Geraci spent the summer knowing he had a great opportunity to take hold of the lone starting role readily available for this Wildcats basketball season. The work he put in has paid off. The junior has taken that starting role and run with it, and last week, put together two of his best performances yet.
Geraci produced the two highest scoring nights of his collegiate career to lead the Wildcats to a pair of non-conference wins. The San Marin High School (Novato) product poured in a career-high 22 points on 8-of-11 shooting in the Wildcats' 68-63 win at Academy of Art Wednesday afternoon. Saturday, Geraci knocked down all three of his 3-point attempts and 6-of-8 shots to help the Wildcats drill Dominican University 94-58 at Acker Gym in Chico.
His previous career-best in scoring was 14.
Geraci averaged 18.5 points per game and shot 74 percent from the field (14-of-19), including 78 percent from 3-point range (7-of-9). He also dished out a career- best four assists Saturday as the Wildcats improved to 5-2.
He is now averaging 12.3 points, 2.1 assists, and 1.1 steals per game.
Geraci and the Wildcats, winners of three straight, hope to stay hot. Two of their toughest opponents of the season are on deck. They'll be at 4th-ranked UC San Diego at 8 p.m. Thursday before returning home to take on the Cal Poly Pomona Saturday at 7:30.
