When good things happened for the Chico State baseball team last weekend, Myles Moran was almost always right in the middle of the action. The catcher from Davie, Florida, started behind the dish in both of Chico State's wins, hit .500, drove in two runs, scored two more, and threw out two of four runners attempting to steal. The Wildcat of the Week was also nominated for Academic All-America honors on Tuesday.
Moran was a catalyst behind the Wildcats' success all weekend. He started Friday's first game and helped shepherd pitchers Daniel Foret and Connor Sealey through nine strong innings in a 15-2 win. He also threw out a runner trying to steal to end the third. At the plate, Moran went 2-for-4 and drove in a run and scored a run.
He also started behind the plate in Saturday's series finale, putting down signs for Grant Larson, who fired a four-hitter to earn California Collegiate Athletic Association Pitcher of the Week honors. Larson's shakiest inning was the first, and Moran put an end to the uprising by throwing out a runner attempting to steal. At the plate, Moran led off the second with a rocket to left that would have left the yard on nearly any other day. A strong wind knocked it down and the ball nearly knocked down the left-field wall as it pounded off the top of it. Moran was in with a leadoff double and later scored the tying run. He gave the Wildcats the lead an inning later with an RBI single and finished the day 3-for-4.Â
The Wildcats host Sonoma State for a four-game series this weekend. Moran is among the eight Chico State seniors who will be honored prior to Sunday's 2019 home finale. Â
