When Sydney Proiette became a Wildcat two years ago, the Chico State women's track & field team knew it was getting a gem. The Newcastle product competed at the Division I level at South Dakota State, and most recently ran at American River College. After logging a solid 2018 season in the cardinal and red, Proiette has quickly emerged as one of the 'Cats top sprinters this spring. She showcased her abundant talent March 23 at the Jamie Nieto Invitational in Sacramento, winning two solo races and contributing to a pair of victorious Chico State relay teams. Proiette earned the Female Athlete of the Meet award, and also is the recipient of Wildcat of the Week honors.
Proiette began her Friday at Sacramento's Hughes Stadium by winning her heat in the 100-meter dash preliminaries, posting a personal best time of 12.22 seconds. One hour later, she teamed with fellow Wildcats Isabella Moyer, Lyndsey Settle, and Jordyn Dorsey to take top honors in the 4x100-meter relays, stopping the clock at 48.35 seconds.
Later in the afternoon Proiette placed first in the 100-meter dash finals, crossing the finish line with a time of 12.29 seconds. Her fourth and final event of the day also resulted in a win, as Proiette, Savannah Bailey, Sheena Blackwell, and Claire Chappell combined to deliver a time of 3:59.48 in the 4x400-meter relay.
Proiette will be among several Wildcats in action this weekend, traveling to the Bay Area to compete in the Stanford Invitational.
