Chico State senior Marvin Timothy has played a role in a host of big victories for the men's basketball team over his four-plus seasons in the men's basketball program while helping lead the Wildcats to a conference title, berth in the Elite Eight, and two NCAA Championship Tournaments. However, he had not had the pleasure of enjoying a victory at Cal Poly Pomona.
Â
Timothy ensured he did not graduate without one, taking full advantage of his time on the floor to help key the Wildcats' 70-66 victory over the 8th-ranked Broncos Saturday night in Pomona to earn Wildcat of the Week honors.
Â
The center from Elk Grove (Franklin High School) contributed eight points, five rebounds, a career-high three blocked shots, and a steal in 15 minutes of action. The Wildcats needed every one of those points, rebounds, blocks, and his steal to seal the victory.
Â
Timothy's second-half stint proved vital, giving the Wildcats a huge spark as they held off the hard-charging Broncos. He scored five points, grabbed five boards, and provided two blocked shots and a steal in eight minutes after intermission.
Â
His offensive rebound and put-back with 11 minutes remaining pushed Chico State's lead to six. Following a blocked shot and rebound, he turned an offensive rebound into three-point play to stretch the lead back to six with 8:13 to go.
Â
The effort mirrored much of what Timothy has contributed all season. He is averaging 17 points, 13 rebounds, and 2.2 blocked shots per 40 minutes of action this season.
Â
Timothy and the Wildcats are back in action this week with games at Cal State San Bernardino (Thursday) and Cal State San Marcos (Saturday).
