Isaiah Brooks certainly has it in his game to be flashy and exciting. But what has Chico State men's basketball head coach Greg Clink buzzing early this season is Brooks' consistency and reliability.
Brooks seems to be getting better with every start. He has made five now in the Wildcats' first six games. The sophomore point guard's career-best game of 14 points, three rebounds, three assists, and two steals in a 74-61 victory at Dominican University of California Wednesday earned him Wildcat of the Week honors.
But there is one area in which Brooks's game could hardly get much better—he has not turned the ball over once in the last four games, spanning 121 minutes.
Brooks has just three turnovers this season and ranks second in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) with an assist-to-turnover ratio of 4.0. Dating back to his final 13 games of his freshman year, Brooks has just eight turnovers and an assist-to-turnover ratio of 3.5 in his past 19 games. To put that in perspective, the best ratio in the CCAA last season was 2.7 and only three players in the nation had a ratio better than 3.5.
Since jumping back into the starting lineup on December 8, Brooks has averaged 10.3 points, 2.1 assists, and 1.3 steals per game.
Brooks and the Wildcats are back in action December 29 at Cal Poly Pomona.
