In constructing its third straight California Collegiate Athletic Association Championship and 14th in the past 15 years, the Chico State men's track & field team needed the biggest hammer it could get. Once again, Nolan Nagle provided it. Â
The senior thrower set the tone for the Wildcats at last weekend's California Collegiate Athletic Association Championships, launching a personal-best hammer throw of 60.83 meters on the way to a second-place finish, and then defended his conference title in the shot put with a PR heave of 16.03 meters.
Â
Nagle's 18 points helped propel Chico State to its third straight CCAA title and the 14th in the past 15 years and netted the Santa Rosa product Wildcat of the Week honors.
Â
Nagle's effort in the hammer throw, a PR by nearly five meters, moved him into second on the Wildcats' all-time list event, and likely punched his ticket to the NCAA Championships May 24-26 in Charlotte, North Carolina. He now ranks 15th in the nation in the event.
Â
His shot put PR put him in 26th in the nation in that event.
Â
Nagle will make the track back to Turlock with a group of Wildcats this Saturday for the Warrior Last Chance meet in an attempt to better both of those marks and compete in the discus as well.
