Chico State's Dustin Miller made quite a first impression in his first series as a Wildcat, hitting .583 as the Chico State baseball team took two of three from Fresno Pacific over the weekend at Nettleton Stadium. The Wildcats' center fielder has earned Wildcat of the Week honors for his performance.
Miller banged out seven hits in 12 at-bats, slugged .667, and reached base at a .643 clip. The transfer from Cuesta Community College scored two runs, drove in a pair, and converted all eight of his opportunities in the outfield.
After going 1-for-4 and scoring a run in Chico State's 9-5 win in the season opener, he went 3-for-4 with a run and RBI in the second game of the doubleheader, which the Wildcats won 6-2. Miller rapped out three more hits in four at-bats in Saturday's series finale, driving in a run in Chico State's 6-3 loss.
Miller was especially good in the clutch, going 3-for-3 with runners on base, including 2-for-2 with runner in scoring position.
A 2014 graduate of De La Salle High School, Miller spent two seasons at Cuesta. He hit .335 as a sophomore, leading Cuesta to the conference title, and earning Western State North Conference Player of the Year honors
Miller and the Wildcats are back in action this weekend. Northwest Nazarene University will be in town for a doubleheader Friday, beginning at 1 p.m., and a single game Saturday at noon.
