Prior to the start of the 2017–18 season, Chico State women's basketball Head Coach Brian Fogel described Vanessa Holland as a fundamentally sound player who "shoots the ball extremely well." The true freshman from Arcata had shown glimpses of those attributes in the Wildcats' first few games, but Saturday against San Francisco State, everything came together, as she railed four 3-pointers and scored a career-high 12 points in the 'Cats' 66-64 win over the Gators. Holland's impressive sharpshooting display from downtown makes her the latest Wildcat of the Week.

Holland finished the game connecting on four of her eight shots from the field, but was deadly from behind the arc, nailing four of six attempts. She also hauled in three rebounds to help the Wildcats improve to 4-4 on the season and 3-2 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA).

Holland's first period 3-ball opened the night's scoring for the 'Cats. She then followed up with a pair of treys late in the second quarter to give Chico State a double-digit lead. Her final 3-point bucket was a timely one, launching the Wildcats back in front with 3:14 left in the final period.

Holland is currently averaging 4.4 points a game and ranks second on the Wildcats with 10 3-pointers on the season.

Holland and the Wildcats are back in action this Saturday, taking on CCAA rival Cal State East Bay at Pioneer Gym in Hayward.
