Kyle Medina capped one of the greatest individual campaigns in Chico State men's cross country history with his fourth-place finish at Saturday's NCAA Championships.
The Wildcat of the Week's finish is the third best ever by a Wildcat at the NCAA Championships. Only Scott Bauhs and Isaac Chavez have placed higher. Medina also earned his third All-America honor, becoming just the fifth athlete in the history of the program with three or more. He is also the fifth Wildcat to finish 11th or better in back-to-back seasons.
Medina, who will wrap up his eligibility on the track this spring, evolved in every way during his time in the cross country program. He credits much more than just his own hard work.
"I've continually learned from great athletes, friends and experiences about what it means to be a Chico State cross country runner," Medina wrote on his Instagram account following the National Championships. "Today was my final chance to execute that knowledge upon a Cross Country course, and I have nothing but happiness. The only thing I hope to do now...is continue to pass on that knowledge to the next generation of Wildcats."
Fans of Head Coach Gary Towne's distance program are hoping the next generation is listening.
