True freshman Eruvey Arceta is majoring in electrical engineering. On the pitch, the Chico State men's soccer player has been majoring in engineering goals. Arceta leads Chico State and ranks third in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) with three assists just four matches into his collegiate career.
Arceta assisted on both of the Wildcats' goals last week and has a helper in each of the team's last three matches. He's done it all despite coming off the bench each time. However, his playing time has increased each time out, from 32 minutes in the season opener, to 41, 46, and 55 minutes.
Arceta set up Thursday's goal with a wicked strike on a restart from 30 yards. It was deflected with a diving save by the Sea Lions' goalkeeper, but fell to Fabian Roman, who stuck it in the back of the net inside the near post.
Saturday, Arceta made good on another set piece. This time the product of Freedom High School in Oakley stood over the ball about seven yards wide of the top of the 18-yard box. He hit a laser to the top-opposite corner of the six-yard box and Kyle Rincon ripped it off a defender and in.
Arceta and the Wildcats open CCAA action this weekend at UC San Diego Friday at 4:30 p.m. and Cal State San Marcos Sunday at 2 p.m.
