Chico State distance runner McCall Habermehl has competed in just five track & field meets in 2017, but the senior from Roseville has made the most of her few opportunities. Already owning an NCAA provisional mark in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Habermehl took a huge stride towards securing her second straight NCAA Track & Field Championships appearance by easily scoring a provisional time in the 5,000-meter run during Saturday's West Coast Last Chance Open in San Francisco. Her huge effort was more than enough to earn Habermehl Wildcat of the Week honors.

Running at San Francisco State's Cox Stadium, Habermehl finished second overall with a personal best time of 16:50.79 and moving into ninth place on Chico State's all-time 5k top 10 list. The time topped Habermehl's previous best by nearly 25 seconds and ranks as the sixth-fastest 5k race among California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) runners and 21st-best in the nation.

At the CCAA Track & Field Championships, Habermehl posted an NCAA provisional mark in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a personal best time of 10:24.94.

Habermehl will find out Tuesday if she is heading to Bradenton, Florida for the May 25-27 NCAA Track & Field Championships for a chance to win All-America honors for the second consecutive year.
