Chico State Athletics

As has been the case in past years, the Chico State men’s track & field team is loaded with distance runners that have either earned All-America honors or display the potential of achieving recognition on the national stage. Add Connor Fisher to the Wildcats’ stable of long-distance stallions—the junior made his presence known with authority last Saturday at the Hornet Invitational, posting an NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the 3,000-meter steeplechase while making his first appearance in the Chico State record books. His personal best effort in the event makes Fisher the latest Wildcat of the Week.
 
The Lake Isabella product was the top Division II finisher at the D-I heavy Sacramento meet, placing third overall with a PR time of 9:02.47. The mark also established Fisher as the ninth-fastest steeplechase runner in Chico State history.
 
Fisher led three Chico State runners—Jack Johnson and Chris Kigar being the others—that finished in the top eight in the Hornet Invitational’s steeplechase competition.
 
Fisher now owns the fastest steeplechase time of any Division II runner so far this season. It ranks as the seventh-best at any level of NCAA competition.
 
Fisher and the Chico State men’s track & field team are back in the state capitol Saturday to take part in the American River College Invitational.
