Behind his second third-place finish in three tournaments to kick off the 2009-10 season, Chico State sophomore Kyle Souza has been named Wildcat of the Week. Souza fired a 1-under par 74-69–143 at the rain-shortened InterWest Wildcat Classic Monday.
The 2008-09 California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Freshman of the Year and a PING Division II All-West Region selection as a true freshman last year, Souza is off to another impressive start. His stroke average through eight rounds is 71.8, and four of those rounds have been played under par.
Monday, after bogeying the final four holes of the first round, Souza rebounded nicely with five birdies on the front nine en route to a 69, which was the second best score posted by any player in the tournament.
