Nine games into the 2017 season, Cailin Garmon is in the middle of the action just about every time the Chico State softball team scores a run. The senior from Sacramento served as the catalyst for a Wildcats offense that scored 22 runs over the weekend to take three out of four from visiting Cal State East Bay. Garmon batted .538 in the series, scoring seven runs and driving home two more, while stealing nine bases in as many attempts. Those gaudy numbers add up to Garmon being named Wildcat of the Week.
Â
Garmon racked up seven hits in 13 at-bats and also walked twice against the Toros, posting a .600 on-base percentage. She stole multiple bases in three of the four series games.
Â
Garmon scored four runs and swiped four bases in the second game of Friday's series-opening doubleheader, then was nearly unstoppable in Saturday's twin bill, collecting five hits, scoring three runs, knocking in a pair and stealing four bases.
Â
Garmon enters the week leading the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) in stolen bases (17), and ranks second in runs scored (16) and fifth in batting (.484).
Â
Garmon and the Wildcats take to the road this weekend to square off against Cal State Dominguez Hills in a four-game set, with doubleheaders scheduled Friday and Saturday.
