Despite a depleted roster, the Chico State women's basketball team is holding its own in the battle for a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Championship Tournament berth. A large reason for the 'Cats' tenacity is the play of Kayla Taylor. Since being inserted into the starting lineup January 13, the junior forward has put up the best numbers of her Chico State career, and she continued that trend during the team's weekend split at Acker Gym. Taylor's impressive production makes her the Wildcat of the Week.

Against Cal State San Bernardino and UC San Diego, Taylor averaged 10 points and 4.5 rebounds a game, while dishing out three assists and recording a block and steal to move the Wildcats to 12-7 on the season and 7-6 in CCAA play.

Friday, Taylor scored 13 points and grabbed six boards in the Wildcats' 63-54 win over Cal State San Bernardino. She followed up with a seven point, three rebound performance Saturday as Chico State bowed to conference leader UC San Diego.

In her last six games—all starts—Taylor has averaged 11 points and four rebounds a game, shooting 51.9 percent from the field.

Taylor and the Wildcats travel to the Bay Area this weekend for a pair of key conference matchups. The 'Cats take on Sonoma State Friday in Rohnert Park, followed by a Saturday showdown with San Francisco State.   Â
