Every team needs an Admiral Ackbar. Wildcat of the Week Marvin Timothy played that role for the Chico State men's basketball team last weekend. For those unfamiliar, Admiral Ackbar is a "Star Wars" character famous for the line "It's a trap!," and helping to save the Rebellion during the Battle of Endor in "Return of the Jedi."
Last Thursday, Timothy recognized that the Wildcats' game against Cal State Monterey Bay–their first since the holiday break–might just be a trap. After all, the Wildcats' showdown with unbeaten San Francisco State was looming less than 48 hours later.
So Timothy took it upon himself to mobilize the Wildcats. The sophomore scored eight points and grabbed five rebounds in the game's first four-and-a-half minutes to energize his mates and put the Wildcats on a path to success.
He finished with his first career double-double–12 points and 10 rebounds–in Chico State's 88–59 victory. Timothy also notched a blocked shot and a steal in 24 minutes of action.
He also played well in limited minutes against San Francisco State, making both of his shots and grabbing two rebounds in eight minutes. The Wildcats beat 15th-ranked San Francisco State 75–61, improving to 12-2 and moving into sole possession of second place in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
The Wildcats are back in action Friday when they travel to face Cal State San Bernardino at 7:30 p.m.
