As the all-time leading scorer in the history of Elk Grove High School girls basketball, Madison Wong repeatedly demonstrated a knack for finding the bottom of the bucket. Six weeks into her freshman season at Chico State, Wong is starting to show she can also be counted on to hit the big shots at the college level. The 5-foot-4 guard railed a 3-pointer that put the 'Cats ahead to stay and added a pair of clutch free throws in the final two minutes of Chico State's come-from-behind 71-65 win over Sonoma State, and her late-game heroics make Wong the latest Wildcat of the Week.
Â
Wong finished the game with 10 points—just two off her career high—and connected for two 3-pointers on the night. She also contributed three assists and two steals as the Wildcats erased an eight-point fourth quarter deficit to beat the Seawolves, snapping a three-game losing streak while notching the team's first California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) victory of the season.
Â
Wong's pivotal 3-pointer with 1:44 left gave Chico State a 65-63 lead, and with 18 seconds to go she calmly sank two free throws to push the 'Cats' lead back to four. Teammate Jo Paine also hit two late free throws to seal the 71-65 victory and improve the Wildcats' season record to 6-4.

Wong and the Wildcats return to action December 29 when they host Cal State Monterey Bay, followed by a December 31 New Years Eve matinee against San Francisco State at Acker Gym. Â Â
