Rajaee DeLane possesses the speed and athleticism to wreak havoc on opposing defenses all season long. So far he is doing just that.
DeLane, our inaugural 2016-17 male Wildcat of the Week, leads the California Collegiate Athletic Association in shots (12) and shots on goal (6) after the Wildcats' season-opening split against Western Washington and Seattle Pacific.
DeLane, a senior forward, led the Wildcats with eight shots – including four on goal – in their season-opening 1-0 loss to Western Washington.
He unleashed four more shots – one that was saved – in their 3-2 victory over 11th-ranked Seattle Pacific Saturday.
While he has yet to find the back of the net himself, it's only a matter of time. And his speed and aggressiveness has opened up space for the rest of the offense.
Fellow attacker Omar Nuño took advantage of that space Saturday, scoring a hat trick.
"Raj and Omar are a dynamic pair up top," said Head Coach Felipe Restrepo. "There aren't too many teams that have that dangerous of a combination anywhere in the nation." Â
DeLane and the Wildcats will be back in action Thursday at 4:30 p.m. at Point Loma and Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at California Baptist.
